Whenever the Hindi films returned to Kashmir, or whenever Kashmir was used as the backdrop of the movies, the Shikaras formed an integral part of the whole set up. However, the proliferation of Shikaras in such a large numbers may have forced the government to take this decision. It might have been done to protect the Dal Lake but it could have fallout in the long run, that it was one of the famous landmarks used by the Hindi films as also films of other languages to publicize the beauty of Kashmir...
