When a press statement precedes an actual incident, you may think that it’s probably about the movie Anthima Theerpu or something like it. But, no! This is about “Happy Days” movie that was released in the USA today! Strangely enough, a leading Telugu daily newspaper already ran a story on “tremendous response” to the movie, as stated by the producers! Indeed, the producers say that NRI Telugu audiences from the USA are appreciating them for making a good movie! Oh, may be the movie is good, but wait a minute, isn’t the news composed the evening before? This means the producers held a press meet even before the movie was actually seen by any single person in the USA!! And, the so-called viewers of the movie called up the producers or e-mailed them at night, and then these people called for a press meet about the same! Wow!! The movie releases in Andhra Pradesh on Oct. 02, and the producers seem to be promoting it, and at least one mainstream news medium seem to be helpful. (Thanks to the leading daily for publishing it already - by the time this blog is published at about 4:30 a.m. IST, or I’d not have known this ridiculous hype!)

It’s not unusual that even for flop movies, we see news that the first week collections were great, and there are “vijaya yatra-s” all over the state or something. Hype is okay, enthusiasm is surely appreciable, but then, doesn’t the Sanskrit adage say that overdoing should be shed off?

A word of suggestion and caution to all moviemakers and media in this context: Make a good movie, and make people watch it! Release press statements too about the fabulous responses that you receive, but time them well, or it could be the Anthima Theerpu (meaning “final verdict”) literally, on your authenticity!
